Now is the right time to evaluate the year’s wins, challenges, and plan for a good transition into the next year.
There is no question that the last 18 months have necessitated a never-before-seen shift in the way we work and what jobs and skill sets are proving popular in the employment market. The COVID-19 crisis has brought the “future of work” forward. While the big forces affecting work such as technology change, competition, globalisation, and organisational change have been around for years, the pandemic forced businesses to make decisions that perhaps they would not consider in the pre COVID era.
The FNQ business community has been somewhat affected by the government restrictions. However, not as much as other states.
Businesses in trade and service have seen a nice momentum but are quite challenged with the task of finding employees. Our tourism and hospitality sector were impacted greatly not only due to the harsh border lockdowns but also due to workforce availability, as well as not being able to rely on the good old backpackers.
So, currently we are experiencing the “Employee market” and as employers we require to be more creative in attracting the talent pool. It’s a completely different way to attract, source and select candidates. DISC profiling is a good tool to use when you are making your final decision especially in the Employee Market.
With 2022 around the corner, now is the right time to evaluate the year’s wins, challenges, and plan for a good transition into the next year. Looking at your work culture would be my suggestion. Especially when your staff might feel vulnerable and unsafe in current circumstances. Creating open communication without judgement and discrimination will show your employees your strength in leadership.
