This company is recognised in Cairns and the greater Far North Region for its technical expertise and as a leader in Earth-Moving Equipment Rentals and Contracting. They are now looking for an experienced person to plan, organise, lead and control their busy workshop.

The Workplace

Located in Cairns, this is a busy, multi-faceted environment, providing wet and dry hire as well as contract work. Having operated for over 30 years under the same ownership, this earth-moving equipment business is one of the most stable in the area. You will be working amongst a team of highly experienced operators and up to date, late model machinery and equipment. This is an organised and safe workplace with a high level of comradery, where your experience and opinion are valued by the whole team, including your supportive management.

The focus of your role is to plan, organise, lead and control the workshop to ensure the operation is productive, efficient, profitable and sustainable. Reporting directly to the owners, you will coordinate the day-to-day operation of the workshop and yard including

  • Repairs, service and maintenance of the earth-moving fleet
  • Managing of staff - Machinery Operators
  • Estimating jobs and booking of machinery 
  • Operational:  allocating, scheduling and dispatching of machinery
  • Monitor quality, safety and compliance
  • Office duties will include data entry, telephone answering and usage of computer  
  • Delivery of machinery to sites 

Your working hours are Mon to Fri, with occasional weekends

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this role, you will need to have managerial or supervisory experience within a mechanical workshop environment. You will also need a high degree of knowledge about earth-moving plant in general such as Backhoes, Bobcats, Rollers and Excavators and associated attachments.

As you will be leading a team of professionals, you will need trade qualifications as a diesel mechanic or proven equal industry experience.

We are looking for someone that understands that customer service is key, as it drives sales and therefore the success of the business.

Other essential attributes:

  • Friendly and professional communication skills
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • HR driver’s licence
  • Physically fit

The ideal candidate is a mechanically minded who is able to service, repair and maintain the machinery, someone who has let a crew and is able to communicate with clients and lead his team. Is able to use computer and has a reasonable knowledge of Microsoft Office.
