Your prospective new employer is an Australian owned company, operating a substantial marine tourism operation and accommodation services in Cairns.

Their marine vessels operate daily from Cairns to the Great Barrier Reef. With activities such as scuba diving, snorkelling, semi-submersible coral reef viewing tours, underwater observatory and catering, they provide a complete Great Barrier Reef Experience, even for people that can’t swim.

The skilled and experienced sales team is determined to ensure success in the Australian tourism market and now seek to further strengthen its corporate base in Cairns.

About the Job

This is a rewarding, busy and senior role based in Cairns, where you will report to the Group Sales and Marketing Manager.

You will be responsible for proactively sourcing new MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Events) business and managing key stakeholder relationships.

Focus will be on attracting charters, evening, corporate, and local events. This involves the development and implementation of sales strategies with the aim to maximise yield from existing, new and emerging markets.

Another aspect of this role is also upon driving the Backpacking, Youth and Adventure segments.

This position is a full-time permanent role with primary work days being Monday – Friday, with occasional travel and after hours work according to business demands.

Key objectives:

  • Proactively hunt, drive and close MICE business to increase market share
  • Develop PCO, Event Managers and Special Market Segment Databases
  • Assist with the research, progress and delivery of targeted business development strategies appropriate to the needs and wants within each market segment
  • Work in close conjunction with Operations Teams to coordinate and run events

Essential Experience and attributes

  • Solid experience in a sales and account/relationship capacity
  • Working knowledge of distribution systems within tourism / hospitality is desirable
  • Analytical skills and experience with CRM systems
  • Competent communicator (verbal & written)
  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Track record of achieving results
