How do I apply to a position that I’ve seen advertised?

To apply for a position advertised, simply follow the link provided. If you are unable to access the link, all positions advertised can be found on our website.

How long does the recruitment process take after my initial interview?

The process can take anywhere from 2 – 4 weeks, depending on the type of position. You will receive updates from us via email or phone on how your application is progressing thought-out this time.

How many referees do I need I need to provide?

You need to supply 3 professional referees – ideally from your direct managers.

Where do you suggest I go to further the skills I already have?

There are many online / internal courses that you can do to further your knowledge and skillset – firstly think about what you want to achieve with this qualification, is it to grow within a role you’re already in, for a possible promotion, or are you wanting to move into a completely different industry? Make a Career Plan and talk to a career advisor at a local training institute to get their advice on which course would be most suited.

Can you recommend where I can get help with writing my CV?

Start by doing some research online, there are many references to ‘How to write a CV’. Also search your local directory on who offer their professional services or Resume writing.

I am on a Holiday / Working Visa, can I still register with Signature Staff?

The majority of our positions are for Permanent Residents or Australia Citizens. From time to time we may receive a short-term contract that could suit someone on a Working Holiday Visa, so you may register with us, please make sure you include the type of Visa you are on and how long you intend to be in Australia.

What should I have on my Resume, to make it stand out more?

We recommend you keep your Resume relevant to the position that you are applying for; highlighting your skills and experience that relate to the position advertised. Also include a Cover Letter, telling us a little about yourself and why you are applying to the role.

If you’re shortlisted for a position you would want to ensure your contact details, such as your contact phone number and email are up-to- date.

Can you give me any suggestions on how to prepare for an interview?

If you know the company that are advertising, research who they are, find out as much as you can about them.

Most people get nervous when interviewing, you could run though some interview questions with a friend or partner, however some people can over prepare…….. be confident and get a good night’s sleep beforehand! (an ironed shirt won’t go amiss either!)

Do I have to give my employee 3 warnings before I dismiss?

The often quoted ‘3 warnings before dismissal’ is not a legal requirement. The Fair Work Act does not set out any minimum amount of warnings that must be issued in order for a dismissal to be considered fair and not harsh, unjust or unreasonable. Instead, the number of warnings given to an employee will depend on the facts and circumstances of each case.

To ensure that your process is fair, ensure to:

  • Set clear expectations form start (written policies, procedures and job description)
  • Explain in detail to the employee why they are getting a warning
  • Allow them a reasonable opportunity to respond, correct or improve
  • Record all the details

Failure to give an employee a reasonable opportunity to respond, correct and / or improve before a decision to dismiss is made will increase the likelihood of the dismissal being found to be unfair.

Note: One exception to this rule is if the employee has committed gross or serious misconduct.  See separate Q & A on this subject

My employee has resigned and is working out his / her notice, but has become lazy and disruptive – What do I do?

The best option is to pay them out for the notice period and let them go. (Often referred to as ‘gardening leave’)

However, if the employee engages in serious misconduct you can dismiss the employee summarily without any payment in lieu. Summarily dismissal is a serious step, and you should be seeking qualified advice before you do this.

Do you charge me to fill my vacancy?

Our company is a private entity and does not receive any government funding. Our services start from $169 for short term contract and $297 for a recruitment product.

Our Temporary and Short Term Contracts would be perfect for this requirement. This service starts at $169.00 per week for minimum of 4 Weeks assignment.

I have advertised for a position but would like assistance with other aspects of the process, such as screening, background checks etc. – can you help with this?

Yes we can assist with these services. We can assist with full search recruitment or parts of the recruitment services. We have some of the Recruitment processes bundled in the Recruit Intel packages or can offer parts of the Recruitment function at an hourly rate. Hourly rate is calculated on the specific service you require starting at $80 per hour.

Do you conduct background checks on your candidates?

Our Full Search Recruitment as well as the Temporary and Short Term Contract will have the reference check included in those services. Our Recruit Intel products don’t however they can be purchased separately. The rate for this service is calculated on how many reference check you are looking for as well as what type of background checks you require.
