Living & Working in Cairns

It's often said that Australia is the lucky country, and with the wonders of Great Barrier Reef only minutes away, the Wet Tropics Rainforests in our backyard and world class hospitality as the order of the day, visitors to the region and people calling Cairns home could hardly argue that statement.

How things have changed! Captain James Cook sailed up the North Queensland coast in June 1770, and discovered the site where today's City of Cairns is located, but due to the rugged terrain, difficult waterways, tropical disease and dangerous animals such as crocodiles it took a further 100 years before white settlement would be established in the region.

It would have been impossible for these early explorers to predict that the area would turn into one of the worlds most sought after tourism destinations, a truly unique place to live and work in. In 1984 an international airport opened and a major tourism boom began which transformed Cairns from a sleepy regional town to the thriving city it is today.

“Diverse in natural tropical riches, colourful and stylish, Cairns has something to offer everyone”.
